A Brief History and Philosophy
Melbourne Art Class traces its roots to 2008, when founder and director Marco Corsini began teaching community art classes in collaboration with the Uniting Church at Enderby Studio in Richmond. What started as children’s classes and a studio art programme has grown into a thriving network of studios across Melbourne, including Union Studio in Armadale, Glenferrie Studio in Hawthorn, and others.
The ethos remains centred on accessible, high-quality art education. Led by practising professional artists, classes emphasise foundational techniques while encouraging personal expression, confidence-building, and creative freedom. From observational drawing fundamentals to specialised workshops in Japanese calligraphy or abstract painting, the curriculum caters to diverse interests and skill levels.

What Makes Union Studio Special?
Located at Level 1, 85 Union Street, Armadale, Union Studio offers a bright, practical workspace ideal for hands-on learning. The studio hosts a variety of ongoing and short-term programmes, including:
- Adult Studio Art Courses: Weekly sessions in painting and drawing where students work on personal projects or still life setups with expert guidance. All levels are welcome, with mini-lectures on art history and techniques woven in.
- Life Drawing Drop-In Classes: Untutored or guided sessions focused on capturing the human form, perfect for honing observational skills on Wednesday mornings.
- Specialised Workshops and Masterclasses: Recent and upcoming highlights include Japanese Calligraphy with Junko Azukawa, Drawing Bootcamp with Marco Corsini, Masterclasses with David Hamilton, and short courses in portraiture, abstraction, and watercolour landscapes.
- Children’s and Teens’ Programmes: School holiday workshops and term-time classes that build foundational skills in a fun, mentoring-style environment. Winter workshops have been held here during renovations at other sites.
The studio’s flexible schedule—daytime, evening, and weekend options—makes it convenient for busy Melburnians. Many appreciate the personalised tuition, access to quality materials, and the sense of community fostered among participants.

Classes are taught by accomplished artists such as:
- Marco Corsini (B.Ed. Visual Arts, Master of Creative Arts): Founder with expertise in painting, drawing, and children’s programmes.
- Catalina Leichner: Specialises in watercolour, oils, and drawing.
- David Hamilton, Samara Adamson-Pinczewski, Michelle Zuccolo, and others who bring professional practice and inspiring perspectives to the studio.
