Wonder Women of Malvern: Building Strength, Mobility and Confidence

In the leafy suburb of Malvern, Victoria, a dedicated women-only studio is helping women over 35 rediscover their physical power and resilience. Wonder Woman Fitness, tucked away at 1A Winter Street, is far more than a conventional gym. It is a supportive, intimate space where strength training, mobility work and functional fitness take centre stage — particularly for those navigating perimenopause, menopause and the natural changes that come with midlife.

Founded by Natalie Shostak, a Master Trainer and Menopause Coaching Specialist with Certificates III and IV in Fitness, the studio was born from a clear need. Natalie, who has spent more than two decades in the food industry and is a keen half-marathon runner, noticed that many women in their 40s and beyond were training harder yet seeing fewer results. Research led her to specialise in the physiology of mature women: the importance of building muscular density, improving bone health, enhancing mobility and preventing injury so that daily life and favourite sports remain enjoyable for years to come. “Exercise should keep you moving freely, feeling fit and strong, and looking great,” she says. “As we age, our bodies respond differently, so we need smarter strategies.”

The philosophy at Wonder Woman Fitness is refreshingly straightforward: feel strong, look great, move well. Training revolves around free weights, functional movements and targeted mobility exercises that build real-world strength, balance and coordination. Sessions are never one-size-fits-all. Every programme is tailored to the individual’s goals, body and life stage — whether that means preparing for or recovering from pregnancy, managing chronic conditions, or simply regaining confidence in everyday movement.

The expert team complements Natalie’s vision perfectly. Karen brings more than 20 years’ experience, a Bachelor of Science in Biological Science, and qualifications in kettlebells, Pilates, sports nutrition, rehabilitation and mental health. Her holistic sessions blend strength, cardio, core conditioning, boxing, HIIT and balance work to support women through every life stage. Laura, a Personal Trainer and Rehabilitation Physiotherapist with international experience in Ireland, the UK and Canada, specialises in women’s health and active ageing. “Movement is medicine for both mind and body,” she believes, with a strong focus on injury prevention and musculoskeletal management.

Clients can choose 30-, 45- or 60-minute personal training sessions, either one-to-one or with a friend. The private studio setting creates a safe, judgement-free environment where women can train at their own pace. The studio also runs inspiring challenges such as the popular four-week MENO FIT programme, designed to help participants feel empowered rather than limited by the menopausal transition. Regular events, including “Training through Menopause 101” workshops, further demonstrate the studio’s commitment to education and community.

Women who train here often speak of more than just physical gains. Many report improved energy, better sleep, reduced joint pain, greater confidence and a renewed sense of control over their bodies. In an era when midlife women are often overlooked in mainstream fitness spaces, Wonder Woman Fitness offers a refreshing, science-backed alternative that celebrates strength at every age.

Whether you are new to exercise, returning after a break, or simply seeking a more purposeful approach to training, Wonder Woman Fitness provides the expertise, encouragement and community to help you thrive.
