Prahran Uniting Op Shop, Prahran: Bargain Hunting on Chapel Street That Funds Emergency Relief and Community Meals

If you love op shopping, vintage fashion, treasure hunting and eclectic finds, Chapel Street is the place to be. Among the dozens of op shops and vintage havens along the strip is the Prahran Uniting Op Shop at 211 Chapel Street, which invites shoppers to come in and "have the freedom to be yourself", knowing that every purchase helps people in the local community.

Something for everyone

Step inside the spacious shop and you'll find high-quality fashion, books, homewares and plenty more. There's a curated section, ranging from quirky streetwear to sophisticated style, that the team says you won't want to miss. Add stunning artwork, electrical goods and a selection of music and, as the shop puts it, there's truly something for everyone.

The shop sits between Commercial Road and High Street, just a short tram ride from the CBD and easy to reach by public transport.

Shopping that gives back

The Prahran Uniting Op Shop runs on generous donations, and the money it raises goes directly to local Uniting services, including Emergency Relief and Hartley's Meals. If you need emergency relief, community meals or other support, Uniting Vic.Tas Prahran's community services are right next door.

Uniting is the community services organisation of the Uniting Church in Victoria and Tasmania. It was formed from the merger of many long-standing agencies, among them the Prahran Mission, and Uniting op shops have been operating for more than 60 years.

Donate or volunteer

The shop welcomes donations of clothes, shoes, accessories, art, books, music, videos, household items, linen, small furniture and electrical items. It can't accept large furniture. Volunteers are always welcome too. If you have a passion for fashion, love a good treasure hunt, want to meet new people or are looking for a way to give back, the team would love to hear from you. You can also join the Uniting Prahran & South Melbourne Facebook group for community updates.
