St Matthew's Anglican Parish in Cheltenham warmly invites the whole community to a Special Remembrance Day Mass on Wednesday 11 November at 10am. "Together, we will remember those who gave their lives in the service of their country, pray for those who continue to serve, and commend all who have suffered through war to the loving care of God," the parish says. "All are warmly welcome."

A place of faith, fellowship and service
St Matthew's Anglican Church stands on the corner of Nepean Highway and Park Road. Whether you are a long-time member, new to the area or simply exploring, the parish says you are warmly welcomed to "a place of faith, fellowship, and service in the heart of Cheltenham". Throughout the Church year, special feast days and celebrations help the parish reflect, remember and give thanks, and families and friends are invited to join in.
Children are an important part of parish life. As well as a weekly Children's Church, once a month the children lead the congregation in worship: reading, praying, playing music and serving at the altar.
Meet Fr Gerald Loos
The parish's vicar, Fr Gerald Loos, was born in Sri Lanka, ordained in 1988 and 1989, and migrated to Australia in 1997, serving in the Diocese of Ballarat and later as parish priest in Noble Park. He spent 15 years as a hospital chaplain, has been an Emergency Chaplain with the Victorian Council of Churches for more than 16 years, and received the Police Service Award in 2019 for his work as a police chaplain. His ministry has always included a strong commitment to community engagement, multiculturalism and interfaith dialogue.

Cheltenham Opportunity Shop
The Cheltenham Opportunity Shop, part of St Matthew's, has been established for over 50 years and in June 2024 moved to its new home inside the Parish Office at 161 Park Road. It offers affordable, sustainable second-hand clothing, household items and more, and every purchase, donation and volunteer effort supports local outreach programs and people facing hardship. The Op Shop is open Monday to Friday 10am to 4pm and Saturday 11am to 2pm.
Life events and hall hire
St Matthew's welcomes all who are seeking baptism for themselves or their children, with baptisms held during the 9:30am Sunday service. With its soaring ceiling and unique triangular design, the architecturally awarded church is also a setting for weddings, and Fr Gerald works with families and funeral directors to plan funerals and memorial services. The parish hall, kitchen, annexe and old church lounge are available for hire through the parish office.
