Alder Fine Jewellery, Armadale: Two Sisters, Natural Diamonds and Heirlooms on High Street

High Street in Armadale has long been Melbourne's address for fine jewellery and bridal, and one of its newer names has arrived with a clear sense of purpose. Alder Fine Jewellery has its flagship boutique at 1142 High Street, Armadale, and its founders describe it not as a brand but as a house: a place built on the belief that a single piece, chosen with intention, can mark a life and be passed down through a family.

A conversation between two sisters

Alder Fine Jewellery began in 2022, when sisters Mikela and Shani Alder turned a shared obsession with craft and design into something lasting. In their own words, the house was built on a single conviction: that fine jewellery should be as enduring as the moments it marks. "Not decorative. Not transient," they write. "Sculptural, considered, and made to last a lifetime and beyond."

The sisters say they think about how a piece will be worn ten years from now, and twenty years after that, and about the woman who will one day inherit it. They describe their designs as sitting at the intersection of artistry and architecture, refined without being restrained and personal without being precious. What started as a conversation between two sisters, the house says, has grown into a fine jewellery house with clients around the world, while its founding values of exceptional craftsmanship, considered design and meaningful jewellery have not changed.

Solid gold and natural diamonds

Every piece in the Alder collection is handcrafted in solid gold with natural diamonds and gemstones. The house explains that each piece is made by a collective of master artisans, combining decades of experience with a new generation of talent, and that every design begins by hand, from the first sketch to the final polish. Its diamonds are cut and crafted within a New York atelier with more than two decades of expertise, where setters, polishers and stone specialists each contribute to the finished piece.

Alder also speaks of conscious craftsmanship. It says every diamond is ethically sourced and that decisions from design through to packaging are made with care, responsibility and transparency in mind. The aim, in the house's words, is jewellery "made to endure, not only in its form but in its meaning".

From everyday pieces to exceptional jewels

The collection is broad. Alder's website groups its work into necklaces, rings, bracelets and earrings, with tennis necklaces and bracelets, signet, bypass and eternity rings, hoops and drops, personalised initial pendants and charms. There are collections such as Lunar, The Heirloom Pieces, Coloured Gemstones and Everyday Essentials, and a section of exceptional jewels for truly special occasions. While the pieces are rooted in traditional craftsmanship, the house says they are designed for how jewellery is worn today: effortlessly and daily, moving with you rather than sitting apart from your life.

Most Alder pieces are made to order and handcrafted individually, with a curated selection of ready-to-ship pieces clearly marked online. The house suggests allowing four to six weeks for made-to-order pieces, so it pays to plan ahead for birthdays and anniversaries.

Bespoke engagement rings

Engagement and bridal is a particular focus. Alder offers a bespoke engagement ring process that it says is designed to make the journey to finding the perfect ring as meaningful as the love it represents. It all starts with a consultation, moves through exploration and education about stones and settings, and finishes with final design choices and finishes. The house says it selects diamonds for their rarity, brilliance and beauty, and that it works with each client's budget to create something unique. Bespoke and made-to-order commissions typically take four to six weeks from design finalisation to delivery.

Visiting the Armadale boutique

The Armadale showroom is on High Street. Alongside Melbourne, Alder also lists a showroom on 47th Street in New York. Appointments can be scheduled through the website, which is the best approach if you would like dedicated time to talk through a bespoke piece or an engagement ring.
