"We can frame just about anything, right here from our own onsite workshop." That's the promise at Cheltenham Custom Framing, a family-owned framing and imaging business at Shop 5, 16 Station Road, across from Foodworks.
More than 50 years in the area
The business has been around for over 50 years. Formerly called Mentone Art Centre, it was once at Thrift Park Shopping Centre on the corner of Nepean Highway and Lower Dandenong Road, moved to Charman Road opposite Cheltenham station in early 2006, and has been in Station Road since July 2010. Current owners Laing and Melissa Drinkwater lead the team, and the senior framer has more than 30 years in the industry.
Memories worth hanging
From a simple frame to the most elaborate memorabilia, each job is handled onsite. The team frames paintings, canvases, posters and photos, as well as sporting jumpers and guernseys, war and sporting medals and ribbons, signed balls and caps, and even CDs and vinyl records. "Some things are just too important to be kept packed away," they say.
Mats, glass and canvas stretching
An onsite computerised mat cutter can cut any shape, lettering and size, and the acid-free mat boards help protect your artwork. Glass options range from traditional picture glass to non-reflective, conservation and Museum glass, and the team will advise on the right choice. Canvases are stretched onsite on kiln-dried timber stretcher frames, with the option of a floating frame, and laminating and block mounting are also available. The shop has a pick-up and delivery service within about 10km.
