Natural Floorcovering Centre, Armadale: Sisal, Seagrass, Wool and Coir Floors From a Specialist Importing Since 1968

Some things simply have to be felt. The Natural Floorcovering Centre puts it perfectly: photographs will never do justice to the colours and textures of its products. That's why it invites people to visit a gallery in person, take their shoes off and walk on the textures that have delighted its customers for more than fifty years. In Melbourne, you can do exactly that on High Street, Armadale.

Natural texture since 1968

Established in 1968, the Natural Floorcovering Centre describes itself as Australia's pre-eminent importer of high-quality woven natural floor coverings. It specialises in rugs and carpets made from natural, renewable materials, and says it selects the best and most beautiful products available from around the world.

The materials list reads like a tour of natural fibres: pure sisal, sisal and wool, sisal and paper, pure wool, wool and paper, coir, seagrass, tatami paper and more. Each has its own character, and together they suit everything from a relaxed beach house to a formal period home. The business says it knows you will love how they look and perform on your floor, whatever your decor.

See it, feel it, sample it

There are four gallery locations across Sydney and Melbourne, all open Monday to Saturday, 9am to 5pm. If you can't get in straight away, the Natural Floorcovering Centre also sends free samples all over Australia, so you can see how a weave looks in your own light and next to your own furniture before you decide. Classics such as its seagrass squares sit alongside newer designs like a Belgian lattice in wool and sisal.

For anyone renovating or simply ready for a change underfoot, it's a lovely reason to stroll down High Street and spend some time with the textures in person.
